Turnpike incidents
Pennsylvania State Police released the following information on incidents on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike:
• State police at the Pocono barracks said it happened at mile marker 94.2 in Kidder Township when a 2010 Nissan Sentra operated by Sean M. Denoia, 29, of White Haven, made contact with the passenger-side trailer area of a 2018 Freightliner driven by Dilshod Usmanov, 34, of Staten Island, New York.
Police said the Nissan was towed from the scene.
• A 21-year-old Scranton man who police stopped for speeding on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike was taken into custody on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
Police stopped the man on 476 southbound in a 2013 Dodge Dart after he was clocked at 89 mph. in a 70 mph zone at 6:48 p.m. Aug. 11. Police said he showed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance, namely marijuana, and was found to have marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his possession.
Police said he was administered field sobriety tests, and was taken to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus., Franklin Township, for a legal blood draw.
• A 2012 Jeep Cherokee operated by a Jim Thorpe woman caught fire while she was traveling on the Pennsylvania Turnpike at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 26 in Montgomery County.
State police at the King of Prussia barracks said it happened in the area of mile marker 21.6 in Plymouth.
They said Olivia E. Wolfe, 20, was southbound when the Jeep began smoking. Police said she pulled off onto the shoulder of the road and noticed the vehicle was on fire.
Police said she and an 11-year-old girl, also from Jim Thorpe, got out of the vehicle safely, although police said the girl had minor injuries.
• Daniel M. Honig, 75, of Glen Mills, was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 5:44 p.m. Aug. 23 on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
It happened at mile marker 60.1 in South Whitehall Township. Honig was transported by personnel from the Northern Valley ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
Police said he was driving a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan southbound when he failed to observe a 2011 Dodge Ram truck, driven by Rafael Lopez Garcia, 39, of Norristown, stopped on the right shoulder of the road. He hit the Volkswagen driver’s side rear corner, then the car rolled over onto its hood.
Police said both vehicles sustained disabling damages.
Honig was cited for careless driving while Lopez Garcia was cited for driving without a license.
Lopez Garcia and three passengers in the pickup truck were not injured, police said.
